"Skiatook" takes it name from an Osage Indian that traded in the area in the 19th century and to this day remains one of the landmarks of the Cherokee and Osage Indian Nations as it lies on the border straddling Osage and Tulsa County.
Called "The Gateway to the Osage", Skiatook has a long and rich history and reflects it in multiple ways through its museums, art, parks and festivals.
The famous Pioneer Days take place every year in September at the spectacular Osage Prairie Trails Park where Tulsans from everywhere come and enjoy great music, great food, a fun parade and beauty pageant, as well as tons of amusement park rides, a chili cookoff, crafts, horseshoes and plenty more fun in the sun!
There truly is NEVER a dull moment in Skiatook, that is for sure!
Probably the highlight of the area around Skiatook lies just 4 miles west of downtown, and that is the beautiful Skiatook Lake. An outdoorsman's dream, Skiatook Lake is home to some of the best bass and crappie fishing around, as well as great hunting, boating, hiking, swimming and camping, not to mention a picnic or two.
With 160 miles of open shoreline, Skiatook Lake is a stronghold in the community when it comes to family, fun and livin' the good life!
